Jerusalem (Horn post) Mohamed Haji, Somaliland’s ambassador to Israel, announced that the Republic of Somaliland will soon open an embassy in Jerusalem, signaling what he described as a “deep strategic relationship” between Somaliland and Israel.
In a statement published on his Facebook page while in Jerusalem, Ambassador Mohamed Haji said Somaliland’s diplomatic mission in the city would be established “soon” as ties between the two sides continue to expand.
“I hereby announce that the Embassy of the Republic of Somaliland will soon be opened in Jerusalem,” the envoy said. “The relationship between the Republic of Somaliland and Israel will be strategic and profound — a genuine partnership beneficial to both Somaliland and Israel.”
The ambassador also called for unity among Somaliland citizens, emphasizing development and long-term cooperation.
“I ask my people for solidarity and unity. Our commitment is to make progress, cooperation, and last for unity. Relations with Israel will bring significant benefits,” he added.
The announcement came one day after Ambassador Mohamed Haji formally presented his credentials to Isaac Herzog, the president of Israel, in an official ceremony marking the start of his diplomatic assignment.
The move is expected to draw regional and international attention as Somaliland seeks to strengthen diplomatic engagement and international partnerships despite lacking widespread international recognition.
