Kenya, Kazakhstan Deepen Strategic Ties as Presidents Ruto and Tokayev Hold Bilateral Talks in Astana.
ASTANA, Kazakhstan (Horn post) Kenyan President William Ruto and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held bilateral talks and addressed a joint media briefing at the Independence Palace in Astana during President Ruto’s State Visit to Kazakhstan.
The high-level engagements marked what officials described as the beginning of a new chapter in relations between Kenya and Kazakhstan, centered on partnership, innovation, and sustainable development.
During the visit, the two countries signed a series of bilateral agreements covering ICT and digital economy cooperation, agriculture, transport and logistics, finance, tourism, climate action, mining, exploration, energy, labor mobility, and space technology.
President Ruto said the agreements establish a strong framework for expanding economic cooperation, promoting skills transfer, creating jobs, and opening new markets for businesses in both countries.
The State Visit has also focused on strengthening trade and investment ties, improving connectivity between Nairobi and Astana, and exploring broader opportunities across Central Asia.
According to Kenyan officials, the growing partnership reflects a shared commitment by both governments to drive mutual prosperity and deepen long-term economic relations.
Kenya said it remains committed to building strategic global partnerships that expand economic opportunities for its citizens and strengthen the country’s position in international diplomacy and trade.
President Ruto described the agreements as a milestone that places Kenya-Kazakhstan relations on a “solid and forward-looking trajectory,” emphasizing that the partnership is designed to create jobs, facilitate skills transfer, and open new international markets.
“Our ultimate goal is to ensure that this growing partnership translates into tangible deliverables for the people of our two nations,” Ruto said.
The visit reflects Kenya’s broader strategy to expand economic diplomacy and diversify partnerships beyond traditional markets while enhancing trade and investment opportunities across Asia and Africa.
