
GAROWE, Somalia (Horn post) President of Puntland satet of Somalia HE Said Abdullahi Deni and Vice President Ilyas Osman Lugatoor received a senior United States delegation in Garowe led by Ambassador Justin Davis and officials from United States Africa Command for high-level talks focused on security, politics, and economic cooperation.
According to Puntland authorities, discussions centered on Somalia’s security and political situation, Puntland’s role in the country’s ongoing transitional phase, and efforts to strengthen cooperation between Puntland and the United States.
The meeting also explored investment opportunities and the development of Puntland’s natural resources, including minerals, fisheries, and oil reserves.
U.S. officials praised Puntland security forces for ongoing counterterrorism operations in the Calmiskaad Mountains and commended their efforts against militant groups operating in the region.
The American delegation pledged continued support for Puntland in the areas of security cooperation, public services, and economic development, signaling deeper engagement between the United States and Puntland authorities.
The talks come amid increased international focus on security stabilization and economic development in Somalia’s federal member states, particularly in regions leading counterterrorism operations.
