NEW DELHI (Horn post) Foreign ministers from the BRICS bloc gathered in India’s capital on Wednesday for a high-level summit aimed at strengthening cooperation on global economic recovery, geopolitical stability, and multilateral diplomacy.
The two-day meeting in New Delhi is expected to lay the groundwork for the 18th BRICS Summit, which India will host later this year, while reaffirming the bloc’s growing influence in global affairs and its commitment to cooperation among emerging economies.
Held under the theme “Building Strength, Innovation and Cooperation,” the conference is focusing on global health, economic resilience, energy security, trade partnerships, and reform of international institutions.
Foreign ministers and senior representatives attending the meeting include officials from Ethiopia, Russia, South Africa, Brazil, Iran, Indonesia, and other BRICS member states, highlighting the group’s continued expansion and the increasing influence of the Global South.
Despite rising tensions linked to Iran and broader geopolitical instability, BRICS members expressed support for diplomatic solutions and coordinated efforts to stabilize the global economy.
Energy security emerged as a key issue during the discussions, particularly concerning disruptions to global energy supplies linked to tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. Delegates are expected to discuss measures aimed at stabilizing international markets and supporting economic recovery.
The participation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the presence of Chinese representatives underscored the bloc’s emphasis on continued strategic cooperation among major emerging powers despite ongoing regional and international challenges.
Analysts say the New Delhi meeting could play a significant role in shaping future economic partnerships, strengthening South-South cooperation, and advancing calls for a more multipolar global order.
