Somaliland launches nationwide security operations at major city entry points, including Hargeisa

Joint operation by intelligence and police forces aims to strengthen public safety, monitor movement and prevent security threats.

HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn post) Security agencies in Somaliland have launched a large-scale joint security operation at entry points to major cities across the country, with intensified checks underway around the capital, Hargeisa, officials said.

The operation is being carried out jointly by Somaliland’s national intelligence services and the Somaliland Police Force as part of broader efforts to reinforce national security and prevent activities that could threaten public safety.

Security officials said the operation is focused on monitoring the movement of vehicles and individuals entering key urban centers, with enhanced surveillance measures introduced at strategic checkpoints.

During the operation, security personnel conduct inspections of passenger vehicles, commercial transport and private cars, while also verifying the identification documents of travelers in an effort to maintain stability and ensure public safety.

Authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing preventive security measures designed to safeguard communities and strengthen law enforcement coordination across Somaliland.

Meanwhile, members of the public have been urged to fully cooperate with security agencies and remain vigilant.

Citizens were also encouraged to immediately report any suspicious activity, unusual movement or information that may pose a potential threat to national security.

The latest operation comes as Somaliland authorities continue to prioritize internal security, border monitoring and public safety in major population centers across the Horn of Africa territory.
