Somaliland Orders Arrests for Those Opposing Israel Recognition Move.
HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn Post) — The Minister of Interior and Security of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdalle Mohamed Arab, said the government will no longer tolerate individuals accused of acting against Somaliland’s sovereignty following Israel’s recognition of Somaliland.
The minister stated that authorities would take firm legal action against anyone opposing Somaliland’s statehood and instructed national security agencies to enforce the order.
“The law will be applied, and clear action will be taken against anyone who opposes Somaliland’s sovereignty. There will be no more tolerance for such actions. The security institutions have direct orders to act against anyone involved, regardless of whether they are a sheikh, elder, or any other figure,” the Somaliland Interior and Security Minister said.
The remarks come days after Somaliland’s ambassador to Israel formally presented diplomatic credentials to the President of Israel in what Somaliland officials described as a historic diplomatic milestone.
Speaking about the ceremony, Minister Abdalle Mohamed Arab said the Somaliland envoy received a high-level diplomatic welcome that included international protocol honors such as the Somaliland flag and a red-carpet reception.
“The people of Somaliland have shown remarkable resilience, and as you know, we have now received our first recognition. On May 18, the first ambassador appointed by the President delivered his credentials to the President of Israel in accordance with international diplomatic procedures. Our Somaliland flag, bearing the words ‘Laa Ilaaha Illallaah Muhammadur Rasuulullaah,’ was displayed at the office,” Abdalle Sandhere said.
The minister further described the diplomatic reception given to Somaliland’s ambassador in Israel.
“The ambassador was welcomed with full diplomatic honors, including our national music and the red carpet. The entire world watched it, and neither the Islamic world nor the Arab world officially objected,” he added.
The development follows growing diplomatic engagement between Somaliland and Israel, amid renewed international debate over Somaliland’s push for wider recognition.
