President Cirro of Somaliland Visits Borama Airport Under Construction as fulfilling his election promises

Borama (Hornpost) The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), currently on his third day of a working visit to Borama in the Awdal region, this morning toured the under-construction Borama Airport.

At the airport site, the Minister of Civil Aviation and Airport Development, Hon. Fu’ad Ahmed Nuh, delivered a detailed update on the airport’s ongoing construction. He outlined the components currently underway—which include the runway (airstrip), the taxiway, and the apron (aircraft parking area). He further noted that the second phase of the project will cover the passenger terminal and the air navigation/control tower.

The Minister also highlighted the strategic plan to elevate Borama Airport into an Emergency Response Airbase, capable of serving Somaliland and, if necessary, other regions during emergencies.

President Cirro commended the Ministry of Aviation, the project engineers, and construction staff for their dedicated efforts toward completing this vital infrastructure project. He emphasized that Borama Airport will play a crucial role in connecting communities, promoting trade, stimulating investment, and boosting tourism—not only in Awdal but across the entire Republic of Somaliland.

In closing, the President reassured the people of Borama and the Awdal region that the airport is a national asset with wide-reaching benefits. He affirmed his government’s firm commitment to swiftly complete the airport’s construction so that the long-awaited Borama Airport can begin serving the community as soon as possible.

Earlier, President Cirro had laid the foundation stone for the Borama Airport project, fulfilling a key campaign promise to the Awdal community.

This occurred as part of his broader efforts to honor electoral commitments, which included also laying groundwork for the Borama–Baki highway.
