Hargeisa (Horn post) Somaliland’s Ministry of Information, Culture and Awareness and the National Insurance Authority have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening public awareness of insurance services across the country.
The agreement was formalized during an official ceremony held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Hargeisa, bringing together senior officials from both institutions.
The MoU focuses on enhancing public understanding of insurance systems by providing accurate information on the benefits, services, and the role insurance plays in safeguarding both individual financial stability and the broader national economy.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the National Insurance Authority by Chairman Ahmed Hirsi Duale, while Deputy Minister Muse Askar Guled signed for the Ministry. The event was attended by directors-general and other senior officials.
Officials said the partnership underscores the growing importance of insurance in modern economies, particularly in mitigating financial risks associated with unexpected events such as road accidents, property damage, and health-related emergencies.
Insurance is widely regarded as a key pillar of economic resilience, contributing to increased investor confidence, business growth, and reduced reliance on informal support systems during crises.
Under the agreement, state media outlets — including Somaliland National Television, government radio stations, and the Dawan newspaper — will play a central role in delivering sustained public awareness campaigns aimed at improving understanding and acceptance of insurance services.
Authorities say the initiative is expected to help shift public perception, increase participation in insurance programs, and build trust in service providers.
The agreement marks a strategic step toward fostering a financially aware society capable of managing risks effectively, supporting long-term economic stability and sustainable development in Somaliland.
