Tension in Galkayo, Somalia as Body of Murdered Teenager Remains Unburied

Galkayo (Hornpost) A tense atmosphere continues to grip the city of Galkayo in Somalia’s Mudug region, where protests and calls for justice are intensifying over the killing of a 14-year-old girl whose body has remained unburied for five days.

The victim, Sabrin Saylan Abdullahi, was reportedly murdered “brutally” inside the home of relatives she had been living with. Medical examinations at Galkayo General Hospital, where her body was taken, found extensive signs of abuse and torture across multiple parts of her body — including both old, healed injuries and fresh wounds.

Police have detained the woman of the household and her husband as the main suspects in the case.

Sabriin’s body is still being held in the hospital morgue as women in Mudug region oppose burial until full justice is secured.

Hawa Ahmed Adan, one of the leading voices in the demonstrations, said they will not allow Sabriin to be buried “without justice,” insisting the case will not be brushed aside.

“We will not allow Sabriin to be buried before justice is done — we are ready to escalate,” she said during a rally led by women activists.
