HARGEISA, (Hornpost) – President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi “Cirro,” on Sunday attended the opening session of the Somaliland Investment Summit, held at the Sarovar Premier Hotel in Hargeisa.
The two-day gathering brings together investors and business delegations from 23 countries, including several from the Horn of Africa and beyond.
In his address, President Cirro said Somaliland is often described as a poor country, despite what he called its significant economic potential.
“Somaliland is a rich country, though it is still labeled as a poor nation,” the President told participants, highlighting natural resources, maritime trade opportunities, livestock, fisheries and agriculture as key sectors.
The summit was organized by the Ministry of Investment Promotion and Industrial Development, in cooperation with the Office of the Presidency.
President Cirro thanked the international investors and commercial delegations attending the event, saying their presence demonstrated growing confidence in Somaliland.
He outlined a range of investment opportunities in economic infrastructure, livestock, fisheries, agriculture, energy and modern technology.
According to the President, Somaliland offers “security, political stability, democratic governance, a skilled workforce, and business-friendly laws” that support private sector growth.
He added that his administration prioritizes creating a transparent and open investment environment and supports public-private partnerships aimed at increasing economic growth and employment.
The President also recognized DP World as the first major company to make a large-scale investment in Somaliland through the Berbera Port and Berbera Economic Free Zone projects. He said the development helped draw global attention to the country’s investment prospects.
Somaliland’s Minister of Investment Promotion and Industrial Development, Saeed Mohamed Burale, said the government is committed to implementing its national investment programmed and welcomes investors from all sectors.
Abdifatah Ismail Ducale, Director General of the ministry, also addressed the summit, describing the forum as an important platform designed to expand regional and international economic cooperation.
Organizers said the investment summit represents a significant milestone, noting that it aims to open new doors for trade, partnerships and integration between Somaliland, the Horn of Africa and global markets.
