Beijing (Horn post) China and Russia are coordinating efforts to reduce regional tensions, with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi holding a phone call with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Sunday, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
During the call, Wang emphasized that Beijing is ready to work with Moscow within the United Nations Security Council to ease escalating conflicts. Speaking specifically on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Wang called for an urgent ceasefire and a political solution to resolve regional disruptions through dialogue.
The discussion comes ahead of a Security Council vote expected next week on a draft resolution submitted by Bahrain aimed at safeguarding commercial shipping in and around the strategic waterway.
Wang urged Russia to adopt a “balanced and neutral approach” while reiterating China’s long-standing calls for a ceasefire across the Persian Gulf and broader Middle East.
Analysts say the cooperation signals Beijing and Moscow’s shared interest in preventing further escalation in a region critical for global energy supplies.
