Iran Petrochemical Facilities Targeted in Reported Attacks as Israel Claims Strikes on Energy Infrastructure.

JERUSALEM (Horn post) Multiple Iranian sources reported that a second petrochemical facility has been targeted in what was described as a “hostile attack,” amid escalating tensions following Israeli claims of strikes on Iran’s key energy infrastructure.

Iranian media outlets said the Marvdasht Petrochemical Complex came under attack. The Fars News Agency reported that the incident caused a fire that was contained within the first few minutes.

Separately, the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, citing the Marvdasht governor’s office, said there was no significant damage to the facility. Tasnim later reported that two petrochemical companies had been targeted in the latest developments.

The reported attack follows earlier claims by Israel that it struck the South Pars petrochemical complex in Asaluyeh, southern Iran, a major hub for the country’s energy sector.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement that the Israeli military had targeted what he described as Iran’s “largest fuel facility” in Asaluyeh. He added that the site produces roughly half of Iran’s petrochemical output.

Katz said the strikes were carried out under orders for the Israel Defense Forces to intensify operations against Iranian infrastructure “with full force.” He also mentioned a prior attack on another facility last week.

According to the statement, the two targeted sites together account for about 85% of Iran’s petrochemical exports and are now “out of service.” Katz described the impact as a severe economic blow worth tens of billions of dollars adding that Iran’s petrochemical sector is a key source of funding for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the country’s military capabilities.

Iranian authorities have not confirmed the extent of the damage beyond initial reports, and independent verification of the claims remains limited.
