“Our state was not built on foreign dependence. We united our minds, used our knowledge, pooled our resources” President Irro

Hargeisa (Horn post) The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), on Tuesday attended the 32nd anniversary celebrations marking the establishment of the Somaliland National Armed Forces.

Somaliland marked the 32nd anniversary of the founding of its National Army with a grand ceremony attended by senior leaders, government officials, and distinguished guests. Among those present were the third President of Somaliland, H.E. Dahir Rayale Kahin; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, H.E. Yasin Mahamoud Hiir Faratoon; senior military commanders; the Chief Justice, Adna Haji Ali; leaders of the three major political parties—Kulmiye’s Mohamed Kahin, Waddani’s Hirsi Ali Haji Jassan, and UCID’s Kaah Mohamoud Hashi Abdi—as well as other dignitaries.

In his keynote address, President H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro) began by praying for mercy on all former commanders, leaders, and soldiers who gave their lives defending the nation. He said:

“To the parents, children, and families of the fallen, I say this: Their legacy lives on. You have a history to be proud of, and your children will honor it, Insha’Allah.”

The President praised the National Army as the cornerstone of Somaliland’s existence, stating:

“On behalf of my citizens, I confidently affirm that the National Army is the institution my people respect the most, above all other government institutions.”

President Irro emphasized the role of Somaliland’s people in building the nation independently, saying:

“Our state was not built on foreign dependence. We united our minds, used our knowledge, pooled our resources, and today we celebrate the beautiful Somaliland we have achieved.”

President Irro reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the honor and dignity of the National Army:

“This government is committed to protecting your reputation and ensuring no one undermines your integrity. Developing and strengthening the National Army remains a top priority for us, using our own capabilities.”

Speaking on his personal commitment to the nation, the President of the Republic of Somaliland concluded

“To my honorable soldiers and all my beloved citizens, I pledge that during my tenure, my primary goal will be to serve you with honesty, transparency, and dedication. I aim to write my name in your hearts, not in your property.”

The event also featured speeches from the Commander of the Somaliland National Armed Forces, Maj. Gen. Nimcan Yusuf Osman, and the Minister of Defense, Mohamed Yusuf Ali, who reflected on the force’s history, achievements, and future direction.

The 32nd-anniversary celebration underscored the National Army’s vital role in Somaliland’s peace, stability, and unity, while highlighting the government’s continued support for its professional development and welfare.
