Nairobi, Kenya (Horn post) William Ruto on Friday hailed marathon star Sebastian Sawe for what he described as a historic achievement during the London Marathon, calling it a defining moment in the story of human endurance.
Speaking at State House in Nairobi, Ruto said Sawe’s performance went beyond breaking a record, arguing that the athlete had “expanded the horizon of human potential” by accomplishing what many had considered impossible.
“Sebastian did not only break a record—he redefined what is possible,” Ruto said, praising the runner as a national hero whose success would inspire future generations of Kenyan athletes.
The president used the occasion to reiterate his government’s commitment to investing in sports development, including scaling up talent identification programs and building world-class infrastructure to support young athletes.
“Our goal is to transform talent into sustainable livelihoods and meaningful careers,” Ruto added.
Sawe, who recently set a new benchmark in long-distance running, was officially received at State House, where he was congratulated for what Ruto described as an “unmatched feat.”
