Jubaland President Holds High-Level Talks with U.S. Ambassador in Kismayo

Kismayo (Hornpost) The President of Jubaland State, Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe), on Monday hosted the United States Ambassador to Somalia, Richard H. Riley, and a high-level delegation accompanying him during an official working visit to Kismayo, according to a statement from the Jubaland Presidency.

The meeting, which took place at the Presidential Palace, comes at a time when Jubaland continues to play a central role in regional security operations and the broader federal state-building process in Somalia. President Ahmed Madobe was joined by the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Planning & International Cooperation, reflecting the multi-sectoral nature of the discussions.

Focus on Security Cooperation:

During the talks, both sides held in-depth discussions on security collaboration, particularly the ongoing joint efforts to stabilize the Jubaland region and degrade extremist groups. Ambassador Riley reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Somali federal member states in strengthening security institutions and advancing counterterrorism operations.

Development Support and Governance Priorities:

The meeting also reviewed U.S.-funded development programs in Jubaland, including initiatives in infrastructure, governance, and humanitarian support. President Ahmed Madobe expressed appreciation for the continued partnership and highlighted the need for sustained investment in critical sectors to improve service delivery and economic growth in the region.

Political Environment and State-Building Process:

Both sides discussed the wider political landscape in Somalia, including the ongoing state-building process, intergovernmental cooperation, and the importance of maintaining stability as Somalia undergoes political and institutional reforms. The U.S. delegation emphasized its support for constructive political engagement and inclusive governance across the country.

The visit underscores the growing diplomatic engagement between Jubaland authorities and international partners, particularly the United States, in efforts to consolidate security and development gains in southern Somalia.
