Iran Signals Readiness for Ceasefire Talks as China Urges Diplomacy

Beijing/Tehran (Horn post) Iran has signaled openness to negotiations with the United States, emphasizing that any agreement must deliver a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire rather than a temporary pause in hostilities.

According to Chinese state media, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi conveyed the position during a phone call with China’s top diplomat Wang Yi.

“Iran is committed to a full ceasefire, not just a temporary one,” Araghchi was quoted as saying, underscoring Tehran’s preference for a durable political resolution to the ongoing conflict.

He also addressed concerns over maritime security, stating that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to international shipping, with vessels able to transit safely. However, he warned that countries directly involved in the conflict should exercise restraint.

For his part, Wang Yi stressed the importance of diplomacy over continued military escalation. “Dialogue is always better than confrontation,” he said, urging all parties to seize what he described as a “window of opportunity” to launch a peace process as soon as possible.

The exchange highlights growing international pressure to de-escalate tensions and pursue negotiations, as concerns mount over regional stability and the security of critical global trade routes.
