Hargeisa (Hornpost) – Traditional elders in Hargeisa had called for a gathering to be held tomorrow at one of the city’s football grounds, after authorities barred them from holding it at the Maansoor Hotel.
The Somaliland government opposed the meeting, and police forces were deployed tonight to the Xawadle Stadium to prevent the assembly from taking place.
During the operation, police arrested Councilor Jamal Osman Abdilahi, a member of Hargeisa’s municipal council, accusing him of mobilizing and inciting the public.
In an official statement, the Somaliland Police Command declared:
“The Somaliland Police Force has apprehended suspect Jamal Osman Abdilahi, a member of the Hargeisa City Council, who was caught engaging in public mobilization and incitement.
This operation is part of broader efforts to safeguard public safety and strengthen the security of the capital. The suspect will be brought before judicial authorities.
The Somaliland Police Command assures the public that any individual attempting to instigate unrest or incite the population will face firm legal action. Citizens are urged to cooperate with the security forces and avoid any actions that could undermine national stability.”
Police also confirmed the arrest of Mohamed Farah Hirsi, the former Chairman of the Academy for Peace and Development.
