CAIRO (hornpost.com/) senior officials from Hamas said on Saturday that no progress has been made in the final round of talks on the second phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
The talks to extend the ceasefire agreement are being held between the parties, officials from the United States, Egypt and Qatar, and the last meetings have been held in Cairo, the capital of Egypt.
The first phase of the agreement ended on Saturday, but the agreement stated that the shooting will not begin during the talks to pave the way for the second round of the ceasefire between the two sides.
The hope is to end the current conflict in Gaza in which thousands of people have died. Hamas has demanded that all Israeli forces leave Gaza, while Israel wants to return the remaining hostages in Gaza. Israel said 32 of the 59 detainees remaining in Hamas’ hands had died.
The first phase that ended yesterday enabled the suspension of a 15-month war. 33 detainees, including 8 bodies, were released, while Israel released nearly 2,000 Palestinians.
