
President Irro Says Celebration Is First Since Somaliland Achieved International Recognition.
Hargeisa (Horn post) The President of the Republic of Somaliland H.E Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro joined thousands of Somaliland citizens in Hargeisa to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Somaliland’s restored independence during a large-scale national celebration marked by military parades, diplomatic participation and public festivities.
The event, held at the main national celebration grounds in central Hargeisa, brought together senior government officials, foreign diplomats, lawmakers, former national leaders, intellectuals, women’s groups and international guests.
Somaliland Military Showcases Modern Equipment
Somaliland’s armed forces staged a coordinated military parade featuring ceremonial drills, marching formations and displays of modern military vehicles and weapons that drew large crowds across the capital.
Various branches of the Somaliland security forces participated in the celebrations, showcasing military readiness through organized demonstrations and professional performances during the national anniversary event.
Somaliland President Highlights International Recognition
President Irro congratulated Somaliland citizens on what he described as the first Independence Day celebration since Somaliland achieved international recognition as a sovereign state.
In his address, the Somaliland president warned against attempts to merge incompatible political systems and governments, urging the international community to follow what he called the path opened by Somaliland’s recognition.
Interior Minister Praises Somaliland Public and Security Forces
Somaliland Interior Minister Abdalle Mohamed Arab thanked the Somaliland public and the country’s security forces for their role in maintaining stability and supporting the anniversary celebrations.
The 35th anniversary celebrations mark a significant political moment for Somaliland, which declared restored independence from Somalia in 1991 and continues to seek broader international recognition.
