Somaliland Finance Minister Issues May 18 Message, Calls for Unity, Prosperity and Global Recognition

Minister Abdilahi Hassan Aden congratulates citizens on Somaliland’s 35th Independence Anniversary and expresses hope for continued peace, development and international recognition.

HARGEISA, Somaliland —Minister of Finance and Economic Development of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdilahi Hassan Aden, has delivered a special message to citizens across Somaliland and the diaspora ahead of the country’s 35th Independence Anniversary celebrations on May 18.

In his national message, the minister congratulated the people of Somaliland on what he described as a historic day symbolizing popular determination, sacrifice, national recovery and resilience.

“May 18 is a day of profound significance in the hearts of the people of Somaliland. It reflects the values of peace, unity and the collective vision of building a stable nation and lasting statehood,” the minister said.

Somaliland Finance Minister Abdilahi Hassan Aden also prayed for continued peace, stability, economic growth and stronger social cohesion, while expressing optimism that Somaliland will continue to receive diplomatic recognition from more countries around the world.

The minister’s message comes as Somaliland prepares for nationwide celebrations marking 35 years since restoring its sovereignty on May 18, 1991, with official ceremonies, military parades and public gatherings planned across major cities including Hargeisa.

Officials say this year’s commemoration carries additional significance as it follows recent diplomatic developments that have renewed hopes for Somaliland’s international recognition.
