
Somaliland Envoy Presents Credentials to Israeli President in Historic Jerusalem Ceremony.
Jerusalem (Horn post) Isaac Herzog officially received Somaliland’s first-ever ambassador to Israel, Dr. Mohamed Hagi, during a landmark diplomatic ceremony in Jerusalem, signaling a new phase in relations between Israel and Somaliland.
The Israeli president announced that Ambassador Hagi formally presented his diplomatic credentials at the presidential residence, describing the moment as a “shared future of cooperation” between the two sides.
Herzog said he was pleased to welcome the first Somaliland ambassador to Israel and noted that Somaliland’s national anthem was played for the first time at the Israeli presidential residence in Jerusalem. He added that the growing partnership would strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors for the benefit of both peoples and the wider region.
Israeli Foreign Minister Welcomes Somaliland Diplomatic Mission
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar also hosted Ambassador Hagi at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem, calling the occasion “another meaningful day” in the relationship between Israel and Somaliland.
Sa’ar congratulated the Somaliland envoy on presenting his credentials to the Israeli president and extended congratulations on Somaliland’s Independence Day, which coincided with the diplomatic events in Jerusalem.
The Israeli foreign minister reaffirmed his commitment to expanding ties with Somaliland, highlighting what he described as a growing relationship between the two governments.
Somaliland Ambassador Highlights Strategic Talks
Ambassador Dr. Mohamed Hagi described the credential presentation ceremony as part of broader discussions focused on mutual interests between Somaliland and Israel.
According to the ambassador, the two sides also held private strategic talks beyond the public ceremony, addressing areas of cooperation that were not disclosed to the media.
The diplomatic engagement marks a significant development in Somaliland’s international outreach efforts and reflects Israel’s increasing engagement with Somaliland in the Horn of Africa.
