
Interior Minister Urges Media to Play Key Role in May 18 Coverage.
HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn post) Members of Somaliland’s National Committee overseeing preparations for the May 18 Independence Day celebrations held a meeting with local media organizations on Wednesday to discuss national security and responsible coverage during the upcoming national events.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Awareness, was led by the chairman of the committee, who also serves as Somaliland’s Minister of Interior and Security. Senior officials from the Ministry of Information, including the minister, deputy ministers, the director-general and other government officials, attended the gathering.
Somaliland’s Minister of Interior and Security, Abdalle Mohamed Arab, has called on the media to play a key role in covering and amplifying the significance of Somaliland’s national Independence Day celebrations on May 18.
The minister Abdale Sandhere made the remarks while addressing media representatives during a meeting in Hargeisa, where he emphasized the importance of responsible journalism in promoting national unity and highlighting the value of the occasion.
He urged journalists and media outlets to actively contribute to the positive coverage of the May 18 celebrations, which commemorate Somaliland’s restoration of independence.
Discussions focused on strengthening national security measures and safeguarding Somaliland’s national image, particularly during media coverage of the May 18 celebrations marking the anniversary of Somaliland’s restoration of independence.
Somaliland Minister of Information, Culture and Awareness Barkhad Jama Batuun and Minister of Interior and Security Abdalle Mohamed Arab addressed the media representatives, urging journalists and media outlets to uphold professionalism, national responsibility and ethical reporting standards throughout the commemorative events.
The ministers emphasized the important role of the media in promoting unity, stability and patriotism during one of Somaliland’s most significant national occasions.
May 18 marks the anniversary of Somaliland’s declaration of restored independence in 1991 and is commemorated annually across the territory with public celebrations, cultural events and official ceremonies.
