Somaliland-Born Woman Elected Councilor in Brent, London.

Rhoda Ibrahim Thanks Supporters After Winning Barnhill Ward Seat in UK Local Elections.

LONDON, United Kingdom (Horn post) Rhoda Ibrahim, a woman of Somaliland origin, has been elected as a councilor representing Barnhill Ward in the London Borough of Brent, marking a significant achievement for the Somali and Somaliland diaspora community in the United Kingdom.

Following her election, Rhoda Ibrahim issued a public statement thanking residents, supporters, elders, and community members who backed her campaign during the local elections.

“I sincerely thank everyone for the love, prayers, congratulations, and valuable messages you sent after I was elected as Councilor for Barnhill in Brent,” she said.

She described the victory as a shared achievement for the wider community rather than a personal success alone.

“This victory does not belong to me alone; it is a success and honor shared by all of us,” Ibrahim stated. “I look forward to continuing to represent our community with honesty, dedication, and transparency while serving all Barnhill residents fairly and equally.”

The newly elected councilor also paid special tribute to Somali elders and community leaders living in Barnhill, acknowledging their role in mobilizing voters and encouraging local residents to support her candidacy.

“I especially thank the Somali elders and respected community figures in Barnhill who worked tirelessly to support me and encouraged their neighbors to vote,” she added.

Members of the Somaliland and Somali diaspora in the UK have increasingly gained visibility in British politics, local government, and public service, particularly in London boroughs with large East African communities.

Community leaders described Ibrahim’s election as an example of growing political participation among young Somali and Somaliland-origin professionals in the United Kingdom.
