WASHINGTON (Horn post) — King Charles III urged renewed unity between the United States and the United Kingdom in a landmark address to the United States Congress, emphasizing shared democratic values, global security challenges and the need for deeper cooperation in an increasingly unstable world.
Speaking during a state visit marking the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence, Charles described the U.S.-UK relationship as “indispensable,” rooted in centuries of common history, law and democratic tradition.
“Our destinies as nations have been interlinked,” he told lawmakers, highlighting a partnership forged through conflict but strengthened over time.
Focus on Global Security and Conflicts
The British monarch warned that current geopolitical tensions — from Europe to the Middle East — require coordinated international responses. He reaffirmed Britain’s support for Ukraine and stressed the importance of NATO’s collective defense.
“Challenges we face are too great for any one nation to bear alone,” he said, calling for continued transatlantic cooperation on defense and intelligence.
Charles also referenced the legacy of joint military efforts, from World War II to modern conflicts, noting that thousands of U.S. and British personnel continue to serve side by side.
Democracy and Rule of Law
The king underscored the shared democratic foundations of both nations, tracing them back to historic documents such as Magna Carta and the U.S. Bill of Rights.
He praised Congress as a “citadel of democracy” and reaffirmed a joint commitment to protect freedoms and uphold the rule of law, particularly in the face of political violence and instability.
“Such acts of violence will never succeed,” he said, referring to recent security concerns in Washington.
Economic and Technological Partnership
Charles highlighted deep economic ties between the two countries, citing hundreds of billions of dollars in annual trade and trillions in mutual investment.
He pointed to expanding cooperation in emerging sectors, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing and nuclear fusion, as key to future prosperity.
“Our nations are combining talent and resources in the technologies of tomorrow,” he said.

In a significant portion of his speech, Charles warned of environmental degradation and climate risks, urging joint leadership to protect natural systems critical to global stability.
“We ignore at our peril the collapse of nature’s systems,” he said, framing environmental protection as both a security and economic priority.
Call for Renewal of Alliance
Looking ahead, the king called on both nations to “rededicate” their alliance, warning against isolationism and urging continued global engagement.
“The actions of this great nation matter,” he said, echoing Abraham Lincoln’s legacy in emphasizing deeds over words.
The speech marked Charles’ first address to Congress as monarch and reinforced the enduring strategic partnership between London and Washington at a time of heightened global uncertainty.
