Somaliland Parliament Security Committee Elects New Leadership Following Internal Reshuffle.

HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn post) The Internal Affairs, Defense and Security Committee of Somaliland’s House of Representatives has elected new leadership as part of an ongoing parliamentary committee reorganization, officials said Wednesday.

The vote follows a recent internal reshuffle initiated by Speaker of the House Yasin Haji Mohamoud Hiir Faratoon, aimed at restructuring and strengthening parliamentary oversight bodies.

Lawmakers on the key security committee elected MP Abdikarim Mecad Isaq as committee chairperson, while MP Guled Mohamed Warsame was chosen as deputy chairperson.

The election was held at the committee offices and was attended by First Deputy Speaker Saed Mire Farah Gire and Deputy Secretary-General Jamal Jama Jiir. Officials said the process proceeded smoothly and in accordance with parliamentary procedures.

The Internal Affairs, Defense and Security Committee is one of the most influential bodies within the House, tasked with overseeing national security institutions, defense policy and internal stability matters. Analysts say its leadership plays a critical role in shaping legislative scrutiny of security operations and governance.

The leadership vote is part of a broader effort to finalize the reconstitution of parliamentary committees, following the Speaker’s reshuffle. Additional committees are expected to elect new leadership in the coming days as the House completes its internal restructuring.

The reorganization is seen as a step toward improving efficiency, accountability and legislative effectiveness within Somaliland’s parliament.
