London (Horn Post) Three U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer strategic bombers departed RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on Sunday afternoon, in what appears to be a long-range mission that could be directed toward the Middle East, according to open-source flight tracking and defense reports.
The aircraft, identified as B-1B Lancer bombers, can carry a wide range of conventional munitions, including so-called “bunker buster” weapons designed to penetrate fortified underground targets.
RAF Fairford, a key forward operating base for U.S. bomber operations in Europe, has in recent weeks hosted both B-52 Stratofortress and B-1B aircraft conducting strike missions. These operations have reportedly involved a mix of precision-guided Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs) and long-range cruise missiles.
Defense analysts say the latest sortie could last 15 hours or longer, supported by multiple in-flight refueling operations both in route and on return. While no official statement has been issued regarding the mission’s target or objectives, the timing coincides with heightened regional tensions involving Iran.
The Pentagon has not immediately commented on the deployment.
