Iran Says Message Exchanges with U.S. Ongoing but No Negotiations Underway

Tehran (Horn post) Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has confirmed that indirect messages have been exchanged between Tehran and Washington in recent days but stressed that no formal negotiations are taking place.

Speaking in an interview broadcast on Iranian state television, Araghchi said the communications were conveyed through third-party intermediaries, including what he described as “friendly countries.”

He emphasized that Iran had responded to those messages by clarifying its position and issuing warnings but insisted that the exchanges should not be interpreted as talks or negotiations. “This is not dialogue, negotiation, or anything of that nature,” he said.

Araghchi added that Iran’s current policy is focused on self-defense and that Tehran has no intention of entering negotiations “at this time,” signaling a hardening stance amid escalating regional tensions.

The Iranian foreign minister also blamed Israel for the ongoing crisis, describing it as a conflict driven by Israeli actions. He said the consequences are being felt across the region, as well as by the American public.

The remarks come at a time of heightened tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, with diplomatic channels remaining limited and indirect despite growing risks of further escalation.
