President highlights U.S. military operations and ongoing negotiations amid Iran tensions.
WASHINGTON — (Horn post) President Donald J. Trump on Thursday announced that Iran has permitted 10 oil tankers to transit the strategic Strait of Hormuz, calling the move a “gift” that reflects Tehran’s commitment to ongoing negotiations aimed at ending hostilities.
Referring to earlier, unspecified comments he made this week about a “gift” from Tehran, Trump said that Iran initially allowed eight large oil tankers to pass through the waterway, followed by two additional vessels later.
Trump also praised what he described as Iran’s capabilities in a single area while emphasizing the effectiveness of recent U.S. military operations. Since the start of hostilities on February 28, he said, the United States has attacked Iranian military capacities “at levels few have ever seen.”
According to Trump, U.S. forces have fully dismantled Iran’s naval and aerial units, destroyed nearly 90% of its missile-launch systems, and neutralized more than 90% of the missiles themselves.
The president further stated that Iran has sought a negotiated settlement. “These are good negotiations,” he said, describing the Iranian side as “weak warriors, but good negotiators.”
Analysts note that the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial chokepoint for global oil shipments, has long been a flashpoint in U.S.-Iran tensions. The movement of tankers underlines both Tehran’s economic interests and the impact of U.S. military pressure on Iran’s operational decisions.
Trump’s remarks underscore Washington’s strategy of combining high-intensity military operations with diplomatic leverage to shape the course of regional conflicts.
