London — (Horn post) The United Kingdom has confirmed that Iran launched missiles toward a joint UK–U.S. military base on Diego Garcia, though none reached their target, according to Defense Secretary John Healey.
Addressing Parliament, Healey said two Iranian missiles were fired early Friday in the direction of the strategically Diego Garcia, a key joint military facility operated by the United Kingdom and the United States in the Indian Ocean.
Early on Friday morning, two Iranian missiles were launched toward Diego Garcia,” Healey told lawmakers. “One fell short before reaching its target, while the other was intercepted before it could arrive.”
He stressed that neither missile came close to impacting the base, underscoring that there was no damage or disruption to operations.
The defense secretary added that the UK did not need to take retaliatory action and confirmed that military activities at the base are continuing as normal.
The incident highlights rising regional tensions involving Iran and Western allies, particularly around strategic military installations and key maritime zones.
