Garowe, (Hornpost) Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni on Monday officially inaugurated the newly constructed Headquarters of the Puntland Police Force, marking a major milestone in the modernization and professionalization of the region’s security institutions.
The new police headquarters, built in the Puntland capital Garowe, is part of a broader effort by the Puntland government to strengthen law enforcement capacity and improve public security across the region.
President Deni expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for its support in developing the Puntland Police Force, including the construction of the Police General Headquarters and modern police command facilities across Puntland’s regions. He noted that all facilities were built to modern standards and fully equipped to meet contemporary policing needs.
The Puntland government, the president said, has placed special emphasis on building a modern, professional police force aligned with international standards. Currently, 500 newly trained police officers have begun provisional deployment, fully equipped for duty, while an additional 500 recruits are undergoing training at the Police Training Academy in Carmo district.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials, including the Acting Speaker of the Puntland House of Representatives and Deputy Speaker Mohamed Bari Shire Police Commissioner Gen. Muomin Abdi Shire, deputy police commanders, senior police officers, cabinet members, the Director of the Intelligence and Security Agency, regional and district authorities from Nugaal and Garowe, members of the Armed Forces’ Horseed Cultural Group, and other distinguished guests.
The opening of the new headquarters underscores Puntland’s ongoing efforts to enhance security governance and institutional capacity amid evolving security challenges in the region.
