Eyl — (Hornpost) Puntland State of Somalia security forces have intercepted a boat carrying materials used in the manufacture of explosives along the Eyl coastline, authorities said on Thursday.
According to a statement issued by the Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF), units from Puntland’s naval and coastal security forces, particularly those operating in Eyl district, seized the vessel as it was transiting the area.
The PMPF said the boat was transporting various types of explosive-related powders, commonly used in the production of highly destructive improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Security forces also arrested all seven individuals on board the vessel. Of those detained, two are Yemeni nationals, while five are Somali, the statement confirmed.
“Puntland naval and coastal forces, especially the maritime units in Eyl district, have seized a boat carrying different types of powders used in the manufacture of explosives,” the PMPF said.
“The vessel and its seven occupants—two Yemenis and five Somalis—are currently in the custody of the security forces.”
Authorities did not disclose the intended destination of the materials or the group’s affiliations, but said investigations are ongoing.
The operation comes amid heightened security efforts by Puntland authorities to curb arms smuggling, illegal trafficking, and militant supply routes along the region’s strategic coastline.
