Nairobi (Hornpost) The Presidency of Jubaland State has issued a statement regarding a high-level meeting held between the President of Jubaland, H.E. Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe), the United Nations Special Representative for Somalia, Mr. James Swan, and the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Ms. Francesca Di Mauro.
According to the statement, the meeting focused on the complex political situation in Somalia, with in-depth discussions on the prevailing challenges and available opportunities to strengthen the country’s state-building process. Attention was given to avenues for enhancing political dialogue and preparations for the upcoming conference expected to take place in Kismayo.
The Office of the UN Special Representative confirmed that the meeting was held in Nairobi as part of Mr. Swan’s regular engagements with Somali leaders. Accompanied by EU Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro, Mr. Swan met President Ahmed Madobe on 10 December to hear his perspectives on the current political developments and to explore how the international community can more effectively support Somalia’s governance and state-building efforts.
During the discussions, Mr. James Swan encouraged inclusive political dialogue among Somali leaders, stressing the importance of engagement and consensus-building to address existing challenges and resolve political disagreements through peaceful and constructive means.
The meeting underscores continued international engagement with Somali stakeholders amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the political landscape and advance institutional development across the country.
