Somaliland Denies Reports of Dialogue with Somalia.

HARGEISA (Hornpost) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Somaliland has denied claims that dialogue is ongoing with the Somali government, following remarks made by Somali ministers regarding Somaliland’s recognition.

Speaking to Doha News, Somalia’s Minister of State Ali Omar stated that direct communication with Somaliland continues, reiterating that Somaliland remains part of Somalia and that dialogue is ongoing toward resolution. He also emphasized Somalia’s strategic position on the Gulf of Aden, historically recognized since colonial times in the late 19th century.

In response, Somaliland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified via a statement on X (formerly Twitter) that:

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Somaliland clarifies that there are no ongoing talks with Somalia. The Government officially suspended the dialogue earlier this year after Somalia’s blatant interference in Somaliland’s internal affairs.”

This statement reaffirms Somaliland’s position that no negotiations or discussions are currently taking place with Somalia and underscores the government’s rejection of external interference.
