Dhusamareb (Hornpost) The United Nations has officially transferred its Galmudug offices to the regional authorities, marking the beginning of the drawdown of the UN’s Political Office in Somalia, whose mandate expires in October 2026.
Galmudug Regional Administration of Somalia President Ahmed Abdi Kaariye attended the handover ceremony, during which the regional government assumed control of the facility previously prepared for the UN Political Office in Galmudug. This handover is part of the broader transition as the UN reduces its political footprint across Somalia.
President Kariye encouraged other UN agencies to make use of the offices to strengthen service delivery for the people of Galmudug, highlighting the importance of continued engagement and support.
The ceremony held in the capital of Galmudug Dhusamareb was also attended by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan, who witnessed the formal transfer.
