HARGEISA — (Horn post) The Minister of Water Resources of the Republic of Somaliland, Abubakar Abdirahman Good, has stated that Somalia has no authority or capacity to obstruct the international recognition of Somaliland.
In a statement he released, Minister Good, who hails from the Awdal region, expressed strong support for the leadership and diplomatic efforts of President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), particularly following the President’s recent participation in the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
“I fully support the leadership, commitment, and extensive efforts of the President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), who is dedicating himself to national development and enhancing Somaliland’s international standing,” the minister said.
Minister Good described the President’s participation in the Davos Economic Forum as a strategic move that reflects political maturity, long-term vision, and sustained diplomatic engagement aimed at positioning Somaliland prominently on global platforms.
“The President’s participation in the World Economic Forum is a clear demonstration of political maturity and strategic foresight, showing the government’s determination to project Somaliland onto the international stage under his leadership,” Minister Good noted.
Addressing regional politics, the water minister emphasized that neither Somalia nor any other party has the power to halt or alter Somaliland’s quest for international recognition.
“I want to make it clear to the people of Somaliland that Somalia, or any similar entity, has no ability to change, suspend, or obstruct the right and process of Somaliland’s recognition,” he said.
Minister Good stressed that Somaliland’s claim to recognition is firmly grounded in history, popular will, and decades of functional statehood.
“Recognition is a legitimate right based on solid historical foundations, a clear and democratic decision by the people, and a fully functioning state system that Somaliland has maintained for more than 30 years,” the statement concluded.
The remarks come amid intensified diplomatic activity by the Somaliland government following its high-profile engagement at Davos, as officials continue to underscore the country’s case for international recognition.
