Somaliland Pushes for Global Recognition and Investment After Davos Forum
Somaliland President Briefs Cabinet on Outcomes of Historic WEF Davos Participation.
HARGEISA (Horn post) The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), accompanied by Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Cabdi, on Monday convened an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers to brief them on the outcomes of the Annual World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, Switzerland.
Addressing the Cabinet, President Irro said the Davos meeting marked the first time Somaliland had ever participated in the World Economic Forum, describing it as a historic milestone attended by heads of state, global leaders, and influential investors. He noted that the participation elevated Somaliland’s international visibility and standing to an unprecedented level over the past 34 years.
The President told ministers that Somaliland’s presence at Davos firmly positioned the country on the global political and investment stage, enabling him to deliver clear messages that reflected Somaliland’s reputation, dignity, and international profile. These messages, he said, underscored that Somaliland is a nation ready for international recognition, open and prepared for global investment opportunities, and a peaceful, stable, democratic state deserving full recognition by the international community.
President Irro further explained that Somaliland benefited significantly from high-level international engagements during the forum, with him and his delegation holding direct meetings with senior politicians, prominent investors, and influential international media outlets.
He added that during his stay in Davos, he clearly conveyed to the international community that Somaliland is a mature state with a long-term vision, credible diplomacy, and a stability in which the world can have full confidence—particularly regarding Somaliland’s strategic importance to the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden maritime corridor.
Concluding the extraordinary session, the President described Somaliland’s participation in Davos as a strategic national success. He urged the Cabinet to translate these diplomatic gains into concrete actions that strengthen national security and defense, safeguard social cohesion, and advance the ongoing quest for international recognition.
President Irro also instructed ministers to intensify public awareness efforts to inform citizens about the new phase the country has entered, clearly explain the historic achievements attained at Davos, and outline the major economic and development opportunities ahead.
Members of the Council of Ministers unanimously commended the President, stating that the historic national achievements secured at the Davos forum significantly enhance Somaliland’s international image, political interests, and global economic prospects.
