University Students from Berbera Visit Somaliland House of Representatives of the Republic of Somaliland for Educational Tour

HARGEISA – (Hornpost) A group of university students from Berbera Maritime University, Gollis University, Alpha University, and Abaarso University conducted an educational visit to the House of Representatives of the Republic of Somaliland.

The visit was part of an awareness and educational program organized by the Youth Development and Educational Volunteer Organization, aimed at helping young people and university students gain a deeper understanding of the functions and responsibilities of government institutions — particularly the legislative branch.

Warm Welcome from Members of Parliament:

Upon arrival at the House of Representatives, the students were warmly received by MP Ali Jama Caraale (Ali Qaran), MP Hirsi Abdillahi Hirsi, MP Abdikarim Aadan Cali, MP Abdikarim Mohamed Mohamoud, and the Director of the Department of Media, Public Relations and Technology of the House.

During the open discussion session, the lawmakers briefed the students on several key topics, including:

The role of the House of Representatives as the legislative body of Somaliland.

The lawmaking process, from the proposal of a bill to its final approval as law.

The oversight and accountability role of Parliament over the Executive branch.

And the responsibility of MPs is representing citizens and contributing to national development.

Interactive Dialogue and Deeper Understanding:

The students also engaged the MPs with questions related to legislative procedures, the function of parliamentary committees, and the mechanisms of cooperation between Parliament and other state institutions.

The MPs provided detailed answers to all questions, giving the students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of how the legislative institution operates and its impact on governance and public policy.

Encouraging Youth Participation in Governance:

At the end of the visit, both the MPs and representatives of the Youth Development and Educational Volunteer Organization commended the students for their active participation and interest. They encouraged the youth to continue learning about governance, democracy, and the important role young people play in the nation’s progress.

The educational visit concluded with a shared message of collaboration — highlighting the importance of civic education and youth engagement in shaping Somaliland’s democratic and developmental future.
