Taiwan and Israel Hold Sensitive High-Level Talks in Taipei Amid Rising China Tensions.

Talks Focus on Technology, Security and Semiconductor Cooperation as Beijing Warns Against Deepening Taiwan-Israel Ties.

TAIPEI, Taiwan (Horn post) Taiwan and Israel held sensitive high-level talks in Taipei this week aimed at expanding cooperation in technology, trade, security and strategic resilience, as growing ties between the two sides drew sharp criticism from China amid escalating regional tensions.

Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te welcomed a cross-party Israeli parliamentary delegation to Taipei, describing Israel as an important democratic partner and signaling plans to deepen bilateral engagement through broader exchanges and strategic cooperation.

The discussions reportedly focused on semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, defense technology, healthcare innovation and economic partnerships — sectors increasingly viewed as strategically important by both governments.

Taiwanese officials have highlighted Israel’s expertise in defense systems, cyber resilience and advanced technology development, while Israeli lawmakers and industry representatives have expressed interest in Taiwan’s global leadership in semiconductor production and AI-related industries.

The meetings come at a particularly sensitive geopolitical moment. Beijing strongly condemned the Israeli delegation’s visit, accusing Israeli officials of crossing “red lines” by engaging directly with Taiwan’s leadership.

Chinese authorities warned the visit could damage broader China-Israel relations as Beijing intensifies diplomatic pressure on governments and political figures maintaining contact with Taiwan.

China considers Taiwan part of its territory under the “One China” policy and has significantly increased military and diplomatic pressure on the self-governing island in recent years. Taiwan has meanwhile accelerated efforts to strengthen international partnerships with governments and political actors that share concerns over regional security, authoritarian influence and supply chain resilience.

The diplomatic developments coincided with Taiwan’s approval of a multi-billion-dollar defense spending package designed to strengthen deterrence capabilities against potential Chinese military action.

Regional analysts say the growing Taiwan-Israel relationship reflects a broader strategic convergence between two technologically advanced democracies facing persistent security challenges. Cooperation between the two sides has steadily expanded beyond trade into cybersecurity, strategic infrastructure, missile defense technologies and advanced manufacturing.

The warming relationship also intersects with broader geopolitical developments in the Horn of Africa. Taiwan publicly welcomed Israel’s recognition of Somaliland in late 2025, with officials in Taipei describing Taiwan, Somaliland and Israel as “like-minded democratic partners” capable of expanding cooperation in maritime security, healthcare, energy and regional development.

Although Taiwan and Israel do not maintain formal diplomatic relations, unofficial ties between the two sides have expanded steadily over the past decade through economic, academic and security channels.
