HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn post) The government of the Republic of Somaliland on Sunday welcomed the upcoming visit of Lai Ching-te to the Kingdom of Eswatini, describing it as a positive step toward advance international partnerships across Africa.
In an official statement, Somaliland extended its congratulations to Lai ahead of his scheduled trip from April 22 to 26, noting that the visit marks his first to the African continent since assuming office.
The government said it views the engagement as a constructive development that underscores Taiwan’s commitment to deepening ties with African nations, particularly through diplomatic, economic and development cooperation.
Somaliland also reaffirmed its support for Taiwan’s growing role in Africa, highlighting the importance of sustained collaboration and mutual engagement between African partners and Taipei.
The statement comes as Taiwan continues to maintain diplomatic relations with a limited number of countries on the continent, including Eswatini, while expanding informal partnerships with other entities such as Somaliland.
Officials in Hargeisa emphasized that strengthened Taiwan-Africa relations could contribute to broader regional development, stability and international cooperation.
