Hargeisa, (Hornpost) – The Hargeisa Municipality, the Central Bank of Somaliland, and the National Reconstruction Committee of Waaheen Market today signed a historic tripartite agreement to complete the reconstruction of Waaheen Market.

Under the agreement, the Central Bank of Somaliland will finance the construction of the General Market of clothes (Bacadlaha), the Fruits & Vegetables Market, and the Meat Market (Municipal Section A1) of Waaheen Market. This initiative marks the first investment project ever undertaken by the Central Bank of Somaliland, representing a major milestone for the institution.

The agreement was signed by:

Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge, Mayor of Hargeisa and Chairman of the City Council,

Abdilahi Bashe, Minister of Religion and Endowments and Chairman of the Waaheen Reconstruction Committee, and Abdinasir Hirsi, Governor of the Central Bank of Somaliland.

In a related agreement, the Central Bank of Somaliland and Daryeel Construction Company signed a contract for the company to carry out the construction of the new facilities.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, held at the Central Bank headquarters, officials expressed confidence that the reconstruction—already nearing completion—will be finalized in the coming months.

The new Wahen Market is being rebuilt in a modern and well-structured design, with blueprints unveiled at the ceremony showcasing the upgraded facilities that will serve as a cornerstone for Hargeisa’s commercial hub.
