Somaliland Parliament Pledges Active Role in Recognition and National Issues.

HARGEISA (Horn post) The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Somaliland, Saed Mire Farah (Gire), has stated that the House will take an active and responsible role in addressing key national issues, particularly international recognition efforts, peacebuilding, emergency response, and monitoring the country’s overall situation.

Speaking on the role of the legislature, the Deputy Speaker said Somaliland is currently undergoing a sensitive diplomatic phase that requires a careful reassessment of national policy and foreign relations.

He noted that while Somaliland maintains friendly relations with some countries, others have openly opposed the will and aspirations of the Somaliland people.

“There are countries that are friendly to Somaliland, and there are others that have clearly stood against the will of our people,” he said.

The Deputy Speaker emphasized that it is inappropriate to grant priority or engagement to states that deny the existence and legitimate aspirations of the Republic of Somaliland.

“It is not reasonable to respect those who openly say they will not recognize us, while denying the rights of nearly six million people,” he added.

He further clarified that the House of Representatives’ mandate goes beyond legislation, stressing that it will actively defend Somaliland’s national interests wherever they are at stake.

“The House of Representatives is ready to be part of recognition efforts, peacebuilding initiatives, emergency response, and staying informed about the country’s overall conditions,” he said.

In his concluding remarks, the Deputy Speaker underlined the importance of unity and collective responsibility, calling for national cohesion to safeguard Somaliland’s interests and navigate the current sensitive period.
