Hargeisa, Somaliland (Horn post) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somaliland has received a delegation of foreign investors from Australia and Canada seeking to explore investment opportunities in the country’s mining sector, officials said on Sunday.
The delegation, composed of experts specializing in mineral exploration, extraction, and investment, arrived in Hargeisa as part of a broader effort to assess Somaliland’s natural resource potential and evaluate prospects for long-term investment.
The visiting team was welcomed at Egal International Airport by senior government officials, including Mohamed Abdirahman Hassan, Mahmoud Aden Jama Galaal, and Shuayb Osman Mahmoud, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Investment and local business leaders.
Following their arrival, the delegation held talks at the Foreign Ministry headquarters with Foreign Minister Abdirahman Dahir Aden, who reaffirmed Somaliland’s commitment to creating a favorable environment for foreign investment.
The minister said Somaliland welcomes international investors willing to operate within the country’s legal and regulatory framework, adding that the government stands ready to provide the necessary data and institutional support to facilitate investment processes.
“Somaliland is open for business, and we are committed to ensuring that investors receive the information and cooperation they need,” Aden said during the meeting.
Members of the delegation indicated they had been assessing opportunities in Somaliland for some time and expressed readiness to move forward with potential investments, particularly in the mining sector, which remains largely untapped.
Officials say the visit underscores Somaliland’s ongoing efforts to attract foreign direct investment and diversify its economy by leveraging its natural resources, with mining identified as a key driver of future growth.
The government has in recent years stepped up engagement with international partners and private sector stakeholders as part of a broader strategy to position Somaliland as a competitive destination for investment in the Horn of Africa.
