Somaliland Interior Minister Oversees Handover of Awdal Regional Governor
BORAMA –(Hornpost) The Minister of Interior and Security of the Republic of Somaliland, Hon. Abdalle Mohamed Arab, on Wednesday presided over the official handover ceremony between the outgoing Governor of Awdal Region, Mr. Mohamed Jama Khoday, and the newly appointed Governor, Mr. Abdirashid Hassan Mataan.
The ceremony was held at the Governor’s Office in Borama, the capital of Awdal Region, and was attended by senior government officials, local authorities, security officials, and community representatives.
Speaking at the event, Minister Abdalle Mohamed Arab addressed recent protests that took place in Borama, outlining their impact and the resulting losses. He stated that the Somaliland government has formally assumed responsibility for the consequences of the unrest. “On behalf of the President of the Republic of Somaliland, the government has taken responsibility for the damages and losses that occurred,” the minister said, underscoring the administration’s commitment to maintaining security and political stability in the region.
The outgoing Governor, Mohamed Jama Khoday, expressed confidence in the new administration, noting that it would bring renewed development and security to Awdal. He reflected on the challenges faced during his tenure and highlighted efforts made to strengthen security and improve social services. He called on the government to continue prioritizing peace and development in the region.
In his remarks, the newly appointed Governor, Abdirashid Hassan Mataan, pledged to focus on security, dialogue, and community engagement. He emphasized his intention to work closely with local communities to achieve lasting solutions to security and governance challenges. Governor Mataan also extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during the recent protests in Borama, describing solidarity with the affected families as a shared social responsibility.
The handover ceremony marked a new chapter in Awdal’s regional administration, with expectations that the new governor will strengthen leadership, improve security management, and navigate the region’s political dynamics effectively.
