Bosaso, (Hornpost) The Acting President and Vice President of Puntland, H.E. Ilyas Osman Lugatoor, received a high-level U.S. delegation led by AFRICOM Commander Gen. Dagvin R. M. Anderson during an official working visit to the port city of Bosaso, according to a statement from the Puntland Presidency.
The U.S. delegation included Justin Davis, Deputy U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, as well as senior diplomats and military officials.
Talks Focus on Counterterrorism and Maritime Security:
Discussions centered on regional counter-terrorism cooperation, with particular emphasis on completing joint operations aimed at clearing ISIS militants from the Cal-Miskaad mountain range. The two sides also reviewed ongoing collaboration on maritime security along Puntland’s long coastline — a critical corridor for counter-piracy and regional stability.
The United States commended Puntland for its commitment and resilience in combating ISIS affiliates, praising the Puntland Security Forces for their frontline role in counter-terrorism operations. Puntland, in turn, expressed appreciation to the U.S. government and AFRICOM for their consistent support and operational partnership.
Senior Puntland Officials and Several top Puntland security and political officials participated in the meeting, including:
Gen. Aaden Cabdi Xaashi, Commander of Puntland Defence Forces, State Minister of the Presidency, Abdifatah Abdinur, PMPF Commander Gen. Abdirabi Abdisamed Presidential advisers on Security and Political Affairs, Mohamed Abdirahman Dhabancad and Mohamed Warsame Seefta Bananka, Senior officers from the Presidency and security agencies.
The visit reinforces ongoing U.S.–Puntland cooperation on security stabilization, counterterrorism, and maritime protection in northeastern Somalia.
