The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland held its regular meeting today at the Presidential Palace, chaired by the President, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), and attended by the Vice President, H.E. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi.

The key agenda items discussed in today’s meeting included:

  1. Briefing on the President’s Official Visit to Qatar:

President H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro) gave the Council a comprehensive update on his recent official visit to Qatar, which he undertook alongside a high-level delegation. The President highlighted the significance of the trip for advancing Somaliland’s national interests, particularly in strengthening diplomatic, security, economic, and development cooperation with Qatar.

He informed the Cabinet that they held at least nine productive meetings during the visit, which were beneficial for the country. The President also noted private engagements with members of the Somaliland diaspora in Qatar, including businesspeople, intellectuals, community leaders, and youth representatives.

The President emphasized that the visit marked a successful milestone in enhancing Somaliland’s regional strategic standing and its position on security-related matters.

  1. National Security and Stability Report:

The Minister of Interior and Security, Hon. Abdalle Mohamed Carab, briefed the Council, stating that the country remains peaceful and stable, with no major disturbances reported.

  1. Financial and Economic Affairs:

A report on the nation’s fiscal situation and revenue was presented by the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Ismail Mowlid Abdillahi.

  1. Update on the Wildfire in the Sanag Mountain Range:

The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Abdillahi Osman Jama (Geeljire), provided a detailed account of the recent wildfire in the Daalo area of the Sanag region, efforts undertaken to extinguish it, lessons learned, and proposed strategies for future disaster preparedness.

  1. Drought Situation and Its Impact on Livestock and Livelihoods:

The Minister of Livestock and Rural Development, Hon. Dr. Omar Shucayb Mohamed, presented a report addressing the effects of drought on livestock, necessary mitigation efforts, and the ongoing export of livestock to Oman.

  1. National Examination Process for 2025:

The Minister of Education, Early Childhood and Science, Hon. Prof. Ismail Duale Yusuf, reported that this year’s national examinations were successfully conducted across all regions of Somaliland.

  1. Security Situation in the Badhan Region:

The Minister of Investment Promotion and Industry, Hon. Saed Mohamed Burale, briefed the Cabinet on the general security situation in Badhan and outlined necessary governmental measures to address emerging concerns.
