Mogadishu, (hornpost.com/) – The heavy fighting and explosions that rocked Godka Jilacoow, a high-security detention facility run by Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), have come to an end after hours of intense clashes.
According to eyewitnesses and security sources, the assault began with powerful explosions near the entrance of the prison, followed by heavy gunfire between the attackers and government forces.
Preliminary reports indicate that an armed group attempted to storm the prison but was repelled by security forces, leading to fierce exchanges of fire in and around the compound.
Unconfirmed accounts suggest that some prisoners were evacuated when the attack began, though it remains unclear how many were moved or to where.
Security officials have told Media that all members of the attacking group were killed during the clashes, but the Somali government and intelligence authorities have yet to release an official statement on the number of casualties.
The situation has now reportedly returned to calm, with security forces fully securing the area as investigations and clearing operations continue.
