The Minister of Justice of the Republic of Somaliland, Hon. Yoonis Ahmed Yoonis, officially opened the Justice Services Coordination Conference held in Hargeisa. The event aims to enhance the integration of justice services provided by conflict resolution centers across the country.
In his opening remarks, Minister Yonis Ahmed Yonis spoke in depth about the vital role that justice plays in the well-being of the Somaliland people. He emphasized the government’s commitment to upholding justice for all, stating:
“A strong justice system is the foundation of a successful nation. Where justice prevails, statehood and peace thrive. Without justice, there is no meaningful governance. That’s why our administration is determined to ensure justice is upheld. As I mentioned previously, this program is part of the President’s broader agenda to guarantee equal justice for both the poor and the wealthy.”
The Director General of the Ministry of Justice, Mr. Mohamed Abdi Hashi, also addressed the opening session. He gave a detailed overview of the work carried out by the conflict resolution centers, noting that they are fully operational in all six regions of Somaliland. These centers provide access to independent lawyers who offer free legal aid to vulnerable individuals.
A representative from the Somaliland Police Force welcomed the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward improving access to justice. Officials from partner organizations also commended the Ministry of Justice for its role in promoting fair and accessible legal services.
The conference, organized by the Ministry of Justice, was attended by various dignitaries, including the Minister of Social Affairs and Family, Hon. Milgo Mohamed Elmi, male and female elders involved in traditional dispute resolution, senior officials from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Somaliland Police Force, and representatives of international organizations that support the Ministry’s efforts.
