TEHRAN (Horn post) Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said it is reviewing new proposals from the United States but warned that Tehran will not make any concessions in ongoing tensions between the two countries.
In a statement carried by state media, the council said Washington recently presented new proposals while Pakistan’s army chief was in Tehran as part of mediation efforts. The statement noted that Iran is still studying the proposals and has not yet issued a formal response.
“The Iranian negotiating delegation will not make any concessions, retreat, or compromise, and will fully defend the interests of the Iranian people,” the statement said.
The announcement came hours after Iran declared the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route, in response to continued U.S. restrictions on its ports.
U.S. President Donald Trump warned Tehran against any attempt to disrupt international shipping, cautioning against what he described as “oppression” in the strategic waterway.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said the country has decided to fully control and monitor vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz until the conflict comes to an end. It added that U.S. sanctions are preventing even a limited and conditional reopening of maritime routes.
The escalating standoff underscores growing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, with potential implications for global energy markets and international trade.
