Doha/Kuwait City, (Horn post) Iran has carried out a series of drone and missile strikes against neighboring Gulf states, targeting both Qatar and Kuwait amid the widening regional conflict.
Qatar’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that on Thursday its air defenses intercepted multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from Iran, successfully neutralizing all incoming drones before they could reach populated areas or strategic targets. No casualties or significant damage were reported in Qatar from the Thursday drone assaults.
Separately, earlier attacks on Wednesday saw Qatar’s armed forces intercept most of three Iranian cruise missiles, although one missile struck an oil tanker leased by state-owned Qatar Energy in Qatar’s territorial waters. Authorities coordinated evacuation of the vessel’s 21 crew members, and no injuries were reported.
In Kuwait, Iranian drone strikes targeted fuel storage tanks at Kuwait International Airport, igniting a large blaze. Authorities said there were no casualties, but the fire caused material damage and prompted safety closures of nearby facilities. Kuwait’s civil aviation authority labelled the strikes “brazen attacks” on vital infrastructure.
Gulf states, including Qatar and Kuwait, have repeatedly intercepted missiles and drones attributed to Iran over recent weeks as part of an intensifying conflict that also involves broader regional actors. International aviation and defense bodies have condemned the attacks, citing risks to civilian safety and stability in the Gulf.
The flare‑up follows expanded hostilities linked to ongoing tensions between Iran and Western allies, with the situation contributing to heightened security concerns across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
