
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (Horn post)– Ethiopia’s National Election Board (NEBE) has announced the successful completion of the country’s 7th General Election, held on June 1, 2026, describing the voting process as largely peaceful and orderly.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, NEBE Chairperson Melatwork Hailu said polling operations continued until midnight in some areas and were conducted successfully across the country.
The chairperson noted that voting in the capital, Addis Ababa, remained open until 7 p.m. to accommodate voters, ensuring broad participation in the electoral process.
According to NEBE, the vote counting process began on Tuesday morning following the closure of polling stations and is currently underway. Election officials are continuing to tally ballots before releasing preliminary and final results in accordance with electoral procedures.
The 7th General Election marks another significant milestone in Ethiopia’s democratic process, with electoral authorities overseeing voting and vote-counting operations across multiple regions of the country.
NEBE said it will continue providing updates as the counting process progresses and results are verified.
